Ok...it's me again, when I first got on this board I thought everyone would think I was nuts for asking so many questions, now I just thank god I did...:) 36 weeks, and I have a scheduled C-section for 39 weeks...this is my first post op baby..after RNY 3 years ago. My son who will be 7 in July was born after 27 hours of induced non progressive labor to emergency C-section.  I barely dialated, I was type 2 diabetic and his heart rate and mine were just not doing well.....I am scheduled for the C-section and I am wondering...WHAT IF?? What if I try VBAC...they say it can depend on how bad your previous C-section scarring is...of which I have no idea. I know that when I went in for my RNY my surgeon removed some scar tissue from my uterus at that time..I would have to assume it's because I had a lot. I was 400lbs when I had my son. There are a lot of unawnsered questions regarding the first one. I just assumed it would be better to go ahead with the scheduled C-section because I MIGHT have an umbilical hernia, which they think they may have just discovered..but if I didn't has anyone else gone thru this...VBAC after RNY?? And what was the outcome??

I had a sleeve, but I'm hoping for a VBAC in the next week or so... I'll let you know how it goes.  I don't think your WLS should have much, if any, bearing on how good of a candidate you are for a VBAC, except maybe making it a little safer since you weigh so much less.

an interesting article:

http://givingbirthwithconfidence.org/2-2/a-womans-guide-to-vbac/vbac-success-rates-and-prediction-models-understanding-your-chances-of-important-outcomes/

I had a cesearean in 1990, then had a vbac in 1992. I remarried and we decided to have a baby. My OB's practice dictated that no one in the group could deliver a vbac baby. I knew that my body had been through it before so I wanted a shot at it again. It didn't matter to me either way, as long as the baby didn't go through any type of birth trauma. My first child weighed 8lbs, 9oz and I had difficulty with him being so large. My second child was early and only weighed 7lbs 12ozs. My third weighed 9lbs 9ozs and my labor quit progressing so my OB decided that a c-section was best. I don't regret her decision. I also don't regret mine for giving it a try, or for having to change OB's to take that chance. Ultimately I did end up with a second c-section, but it was much easier than the first time with the way modern medicine is now. I'm not disappointed either way, but I think I would have been had I not spoke up.

Talk to your doctor to see what he/she thinks. Most women opt for a c-section so he may not have even considered anything but one.

I have a band, but other than being healthier I don't really think my WLS changed anything.

I talked to my Dr. first thing because I really want to try a VBAC. I'm not due until May so I'm not much help since you're so close, but I just thought I'd tell you what he said.  There can be a lot of risk associated with it. He told me to read up on it and as I progress and we see if I get GD or how big baby is, we would decide as the time came, and his decision would not be based on my RNY. He seemed for VBAC and I'm glad of that.
I have decided on my own if there is any doubt that I want to go ahead and schedule a C-section because I DO NOT want another emergency one if it can be avoided. I  was 450 lbs. when I had DD and I hope that the things her and I went through do not happen this time, but as I have an apron a C-section scares me because of infection and if they do it on the upper part of the tummy, like they did with DD, the constant pulling down on the incision. So really I am just playing it by ear. The reason I am most for a VBAC is the limited recovery time.
